Here is a selection of Year 9 ‘Flight’ outcomes.
They could choose to create a mobile, playing card or piece of box art.
Their ideas show great imagination and creativity with strong surrealism links.
The students are now all engaged and excited about making their corsets inspired by “Alice in wonderland” or “Charlie and the chocolate factory”. We cannot wait to see their outcomes.
Year 10 have produced some really exciting and vibrant outcomes. We are so proud of their effort and attitude during the exam and are looking forward to their identity projects.

Year 7 have shown so much enthusiasm designing their pen animal illustrations. I think you would agree that they have designed some wonderful, imaginative designs.

‘Dia De Los Muertos’
Year 8 have made wonderful, creative, colourful Clay skulls inspired by the Mexican festival.
Year 9 have been exploring a variety of materials – layering watercolours, markmaking with pen, colour pencil blending and collage. The students have produced beautifully presented double pages based on the theme flight. This project is leading to a selection of surreal outcomes from box Art, Playing card designs and mobiles. We shall post their final pieces after Easter.
Year 10 have been working on studies of sweet treats. They have been exploring a range of media and creating colourful compositions. The next stage of their project is ‘Meal times’ which is leading towards Final individual outcomes for Year 10 mock exams.
We are looking forward to sharing their outcomes with you in future PressTales.
Exciting collection of Year 12 photography exploring portraiture, focal points, exposure and contrast.
Year 7 have been studying the Illustrative Artwork of Alfred Basha. They have created research pages using the departments ‘ARTY’ outline which breaks the information into paragraphs; A -Analysis R-Research T -Techniques -Y Your opinions and thoughts.
The ‘ARTY’ template has been a great success and used across all key stages by the Art Department. Students have said it has helped them to plan and understand how to complete a research page.

The Art Department
Year 10 students set up still lifes of mixed colourful vegetables and photographed from various angles. They demonstrated beautiful colour pencil blending, layering of tones and a selection of compositions.
We are so pleased with their wonderful results.

We have run two very successful printing workshops this term. The Year 10 learnt the process of lino printing producing a vast amount of exciting prints for their sketchbooks. The Year 12 learnt about procion dye prints using a screen and squeegee, lino and drypoint etching. The results were beautiful and will now be developed using further media.
All students acted maturely and were inquisitive about learning more knowledge about the techniques.
Hertfordshire based artist Amy Pettingill is running an art competition for artists aged 11-16. The theme is COLOUR you need to create your own artwork that celebrates colour & brings joy, positive vibes!
Presdales had a runner up last year who won a workshop with Amy and 6 highly commended art students.

The Art Department
Year 12 have created some beautiful watercolour experiments. They have really embraced a variety of techniques painting a range of compositions – lovely work!
Year 9 have shown Excellent effort in photography this term. Their research pages inspired by the photographer Emily Blincoe were so creative, thoughtful and showed great analysis skills. They created their own flat lay photographs in class from an array of objects. Then finally using a selection of photographic techniques created beautiful product shoots. Well done Year 9.
Year 8 have been researching the Mexican festival, ‘Dia de los Muertos’ – Day of the Dead.
We have been introducing our ARTY to each key stage to help students with their research of artists. The Arty is our departments guide, it is adapted for each key learning stage and takes students through each step of what to include on a double layout.
Year 8 produced some informative, clear, and original interesting pages. We are excited to see their sugar skull designs turn into clay sculptures.
Since September, the Year 12 photography students have been learning about the studio and the use of artificial lighting. During autumn, two of the students began their artist research focusing on two well known photographers: Richard Avedon and Lindsey Adler. The students then recreated both photographer work within the studio at school.
I am delighted to finally be able to achieve a long-awaited mosaic project. It began with putting a proposal together to ‘The Arts Society East Herts’ for funding to decorate a very old wooden pergola outside the art rooms.
We were delighted when this was accepted and we could begin our journey of enhancing the school environment with vibrant colourful mosaics based on elements adding splashes of colour.
Thanks must go to the fantastic local Mosaic Artist, Claire Costello, whom I had the pleasure of working with at her home studio a few years ago. We discussed the idea of artist-in-residence at Presdales and now it’s a reality.
The students have been totally absorbed and committed to this project, developing self-confidence, team-building skills and pure enjoyment creating designs. They have said how the project has helped with their well-being and self-esteem.
We are so proud of all the students involved and look forward to being able to share and celebrate their artwork with the whole school. We are five weeks in and very close to finishing – we just need to grout and then put the tiles up in place.
A huge thank you to Claire for her support and enthusiasm. And a big thank you to all involved at Presdales for making my idea a reality.
Finally, thank you to the fabulous students – you have done an amazing job, truly inspiring!

We had such a lovely day on 12th July at the Summer Exhibition with our Year 12 Students. The inspiring collection of work has provided lots of exciting ideas for their personal investigations. Do go and see the exhibition if you get a chance over the summer holidays.
