If you would like any more information about our Sixth Form, please contact Mrs Preshous on sixthform@presdales.herts.sch.uk Click here to add your own text 8th November 2023 Open Evening 9th November 2023 Our online application form will be available on the website 4th December 2023 Deadline for applications February / March 2024 All applicants meet with a member of our Sixth Form Team / Senior Management to discuss subject choices and entry criteria May / June 2024 GCSE exams 2nd and 3rd July 2024 Sixth Form Induction August 2024 GCSE results – 22nd August 2024 September 2024 New term starts for Year 12 on 4th September 2024 For entry to the Sixth Form at Presdales School in September 2024, please read the option subjects from which you are able to choose the subjects you wish to study, and submit a completed application form by e-mail before 4th December 2023. Each subject is offered as a full, linear two-year Advanced Level course, examinable at the end of Year 13 in June 2026. The entry requirements for each course are detailed in the Entry Requirement section of our website, together with a brief description of the course. We require you to select three subjects at Advanced Level to study in both Years 12 and 13 (four if you also wish to study Further Mathematics as an additional A level and meet the entry requirements for that course). Finally, you will also be required to study English Language GCSE and/or Mathematics GCSE, as an additional course(s) if you have not been successful in obtaining at least a grade 4 in each of these subjects respectively. Once the applications have been received, option blocks will be carefully constructed to meet as many student option choices as possible. The school reserves the right not to run a course if the numbers choosing a particular subject are too low to make that subject viable. If there is great demand for a particular course we will select students on the basis of their preferences stated on the application form (e.g. if it is your first choice you are more likely to be admitted to that course than if it is your third). If you hand the application form in late (i.e. after 4th December 2023), or change one of your course choices at a later date, you will have a lower priority for getting a place on the course(s) in question. Everyone in Year 12 will study a core curriculum as part of the Sixth Form enrichment programme. This will include a Sixth Form sports programme (which can by choice lead to a qualification(s) in Sports Leadership) and careers programme. In addition, you may apply to study for an Extended Project Qualification (EPQ), on an agreed topic of your choosing, to be completed under the guidance of a study tutor. If you are required to study an additional GCSE subject or choose to study Further Mathematics as a fourth A level choice, however, you may not be able to do all of the elements of this core curriculum. Further Mathematics: To take an A level in Further Mathematics you also need to commit yourself to take Mathematics A level. After you have submitted your application form there will be time for the Sixth Form curriculum to be considered by school management with a view to finalising the block structure and constructing the timetable. At the end of February/beginning of March, you will be asked to attend a meeting to clarify the choices made. If you subsequently change your mind about any of your option choices, you must email Mrs Preshous, Sixth Form Administrator, detailing the requested change(s), or alternatively, let us know on joining the Sixth Form at the start of September 2024. We look forward to receiving your application form.Applications 2024 – 2026
