Relationships and Sex Education
Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) is learning about sex, sexuality, emotions, relationships and sexual health. RSE promotes the spiritual, moral, cultural, emotional and physical development of students and prepares them for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of adult life.
Students learn to understand human sexuality, learn the reason for delaying sexual activity and learn about obtaining appropriate advice on sexual health. RSE is about understanding the importance of marriage for family life, stable and loving relationships, respect, love and care. It provides knowledge and encourages the acquisition of skills and attitudes that allow learners to manage their lives in a responsible and healthy way.
Relationships and Sex Education is part of the the PSHE framework and is in addition to Science curriculum topics. RSE is inclusive of all students. The school has produced a Relationships and Sex Education Policy, this is drawn up with trustees and is accordance with the Department of Education’s Relationship and Sex Education Guidance 2000. The statutory content of the RSE curriculum has been in place from September 2020.
