Bring Your Own Device in Year 12 and 13
The vast majority of students in the sixth form find that having a device to use in lessons supports their learning.
The increased demands of the curriculum in the sixth form and more complex tasks often involving extended writing and coursework are best supported by a laptop or Chromebook rather than a tablet or other smaller, smart device. Students who already have a device that meets our minimum requirements (see below) are welcome to bring that to school to work on. The school strongly recommends that all devices are kept in an appropriate protective case and parents/carers have insurance in place for all personal devices brought on site.
Devices should:
- Be capable of connecting to the internet through WiFi (WiFi 6 recommended)
- Have a keyboard
- Have good battery life
- Have a screen 9” or larger
For all subjects, the school has devices that can be used in school during the school day. However, this is subject to availability.
If you wish to purchase your own device, then we recommend the following minimum requirements for specific subjects:
Media | A Windows PC (not a Chromebook) with the ability to download and run Adobe Creative Cloud is recommended. Apple MacBooks are ideally suited. Chromebooks do not have the capability to support the full Adobe Creative Cloud programme. |
Product Design | A Windows PC laptop (not a Chromebook) with Microsoft Office (specifically for Word) or equivalent installed, with the ability to download and run Photoshop is recommended. Apple MacBooks are also suitable. Chromebooks do not have the capability to support the full Photoshop programme. |
Photography | A Windows PC (not a Chromebook) with the ability to download and run Photoshop and Lightroom is recommended. Apple MacBooks are ideally suited. Chromebooks do not have the capability to support the full Photoshop programme. |
Modern Foreign Languages | Headphones will be required that are compatible with their device. |
Students who are in receipt of the 16-19 Bursary will have a device provided for them, please contact the school on intermit@presdales.herts.sch.uk if this applies to your son/daughter.
