Sixth Form Leadership
We provide opportunities for students to take leadership roles within the school
Senior Student Team
The school elects a Senior Team of students, including Head Boy/Girl, a Deputy Head Boy/Girl and 6 senior students, and their roles focus on both the Sixth Form and school as a whole. In addition, a Head of House is appointed for each of the 6 Houses and these students, along with a Deputy Head of House who is recruited from the new Year 12s in September, will lead the House for the next academic year. Positions are taken up by the successful Year 12 students in the Summer of Year 12 and last for a year. They are regularly asked to represent the school on many varying occasions.
Subject Prefects and Teaching Support
Sixth Formers also have numerous opportunities to help elsewhere in the school. We encourage you to take responsibility, perhaps as a Subject Prefect where you will be providing teaching support for children in the lower part of the school.
Big Sisters/Brothers play a vital role in the support of the Year 7 and 8 year groups as mentors and assist in the settling in process.
School Councils and Sports Opportunities
We also have an elected School Council, with members across the whole school. Many clubs and societies require Sixth Form help and leadership and teachers frequently look to Sixth Formers to help them set up new activities and run clubs. Some students can also develop their leadership through involvement in sports teams, helping out with younger teams or through the Sports Leadership programme.
Being chosen to be Head Girl here at Presdales is something that I never would have imagined – yet here we are.
I am currently studying Italian, Modern History and Government & Politics and hope to pursue these subjects at university. The support and encouragement that I’ve received from my teachers, enabling me to be in the lucky position I am today when thinking of the future, is immense and so I would like to do my part in helping others too, showing that anyone can achieve their goals.
Outside of lessons, I have always enjoyed being involved in non-curricular activities such as performing annually in “Presdales Rocks” , taking part in the Bar Mock Trial competition in the lovely city of Edinburgh, and even being signed up by my friends for the 1500 metre run on Sports Day (which I can confirm was definitely a one off!).
I am looking forward to working with the rest of the years, bringing everyones’ ideas together to ensure the school and the students gain the best possible outcome in the upcoming academic year.
Olivia Grace Bacon
Deputy Head Girl
I am extremely excited to be this year’s Deputy Head Girl, and I am looking forward to representing the school in the year ahead. I am currently studying maths, geography and psychology and would love to continue to study psychology to degree level.
Throughout my time at Presdales, since year 7, I have had the opportunity to develop both in and out of the class room with a wide variety of extra-curricular activities; for example, I am currently writing an EPQ, I have just finished the community sports leader qualification, I help in a year 7 maths class once a week and I performed in the annual dance evening. The diverse range of opportunities Presdales has offered are not only highly fulfilling as they’ve allowed me to achieve both academically and socially, but I have also thoroughly enjoyed them all.
As Deputy Head Girl, I am really looking forward to ensuring everyone makes the most of the opportunities Presdales has to offer, and working with the senior team to continue the interconnection within our school to enhance the friendly and well-developed community that is Presdales.
