Tennis

On Friday 5th June, our U14s and U15s competed in the Nicola Mabbit District Tennis tournament, enjoying a busy afternoon of tennis in the sunshine.

Our U14s team won all their matches to win the tournament and progress to the County Finals in July. Our U15s unfortunately narrowly missed out on finishing second. They were equal on points with Broxbourne but lost out based on the overall number of games won and lost.

It was a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon and the girls represented Presdales wonderfully.

U14s Player is Claudia B and U15s player is Farrah H (who played up an age group). Well done to all the girls!

Rounders

A fantastic afternoon of Rounders against Chauncy for our Year 7 and Year 8 teams last week!

Our Year 8 team put in an excellent performance to secure a well-deserved victory, demonstrating some brilliant batting, fielding, and communication.

Presdales 9 v Chauncy 5 1/2.

The Year 7 team also gave their all and played with great enthusiasm. Although the result didn’t go their way this time, they showed resilience, supported each other throughout, and gained valuable experience.

Presdales 5 1/2 v Chauncy 10.

Cricket

Well done to the Year 9 cricket team who competed in the chance to shine cricket competition at St Margaretsbury Cricket Club last week.

1st game vs Beaumont – Won 97-94 runs 2nd game vs Ashlyns – Lost 64-67 runs 3rd game vs St Albans Girls – Won 94-63 runs 4th game vs Hitchin – Lost 79-74 runs

Unfortunately the girls just missed out on a place in the final but ended up in the 3rd/4th play off against John Warner where they Won 94-86 runs and came 3rd overall!

Special mention to our amazing sports leaders Erin and Taryn for coaching the team and being amazing!

Sports Leaders

Our wonderful Level 1 Sports Leaders did a fabulous job supporting the Hertford and Ware sports partnership on the 9th June at their badminton event.

The leaders spent time being trained before enthusiastically supporting Year 3 and 4 students in a variety of skills stations.

German Partnership Exchange – Visit 7th to 11th June 2026

We recently welcomed 20 students to Presdales from our German Partnership school  ‘Gymnasium am Neandertal’ (Gymneander for short!). They were with us for 5 days, experiencing life in an English school with a full programme of events both in and out of school. The visit began with a joint visit to London, when we showed our visitors the major attractions, picnicked in St James’ Park and spent some time in Covent Garden. They also experienced a normal school day with lessons at Presdales, a visit to Scott’s Grotto, and a Town trail in Ware. Our parents generously donated items for the traditional cream tea, including large numbers of scones, clotted cream and jam as well as home-baked Victoria sponge cake.  A highlight this year was when our German partners visited their partners in their homes for tea on one evening. We said our final Good Bye this year at the Hollywood Bowl in Stevenage. The weather was kind and we had lots of fun.
It was lovely to see our students taking good care of their partners and developing friendships with students across the school. Thank you to parents and carers who have supported this partnership, which we hope will continue to develop and grow. The photos here show that our students and their partners really did exchange ideas and experiences.

Abel Smith Languages Day – 4th June 2026

On 4th June, 20 students from Years 8 to 10 representing French, German, Italian, German and Spanish volunteered to teach some language to classes at Abel Smith Primary School during their Language Day. Our students prepared some lively lessons and delivered them with great confidence. We were very proud of the contribution they made to the day.

Russian

Year 9 Russian students enthusiastically taught pupils in Years 3, 5 and 6 how to say “I play…” various instruments in Russian, and introduced them to a traditional folk instrument, the balalaika. The Abel Smith students were very welcoming of our students’ efforts and greatly appreciated their encouraging tone and enthusiastic delivery. Well done to all involved.

French

Year 10 French students taught the French version of Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes to Nursery and Reception classes.

Nancy, Olivia, Megan and Selma planned the whole lesson very thoroughly and with an engaging PowerPoint presentation. They made sure that the language and the progression of the lesson were age appropriate.

The Reception and Nursery classes loved the song and it was a thoroughly enjoyable experience for all.

Spanish

Year 10 students began by teaching  the vocabulary for musical instruments in Spanish to Year 1 and Year 5. The students were kept very busy colouring the Spanish instruments by numbers and practicing colours and singing a song to practice the days of the week.

German

Year 10 German students also taught Years 1 , 2 and 4. They also began with the names of instruments in German and moved on to dancing and singing a well-known Karneval song called the Fliegerlied. The Year 4 class also managed to sing and dance to Golden by K-pop Demon Hunters in German.

Italian

Year 9 students taught Italian lessons to Year 2 and Year 6 pupils. Year 2 learned animal vocabulary to help them sing ‘Nella vecchia fattoria’, the Italian version of Old MacDonald’s Farm, while Year 6 learned some key musical terms, such as the names of musical instruments and adjectives like adagio and allegro. We were very impressed that some of the Year 6 students recognised these words from sheet music in their instrumental lessons.

RATS (Rehoming Animal Telephone Service) Collection 2026

A message of thanks from Emma Walsh, one of our Year 12 Charity Ambassadors:

I wanted to say a massive thank you to everyone who donated to the RATS animal rescue. Overall, we filled 8 refuse bags with donations for them!

I dropped them off at the kennels last Saturday, and the rescue was extremely grateful for all of the towels and blankets, which will be well used by any new rescues they have coming in. Additionally, all of the clothing donated will be sold in their charity shops to raise even more money for them.

I was blown away with the generosity from the school, and so thankful for the opportunity to hold a donation drive for a cause close to my heart, so thank you again for helping me to achieve this.

Presdales Afternoon Tea

The week beginning 27th April parents, friends and staff were delighted to attend  one of our enjoyable Afternoon Teas prepared and hosted by our Year 10 GCSE Food Preparation and Nutrition students. As always it was lovely to be able to welcome visitors into the department. Working under strict exam conditions the students baked all morning producing delicious breads, cakes and scones. We are delighted to report that our students coped really well working under the intense ‘Bake Off’ pressure. Their freshly baked products were finished and presented to a professional standard. The students are justly proud of their fantastic results and received extremely positive feedback from our guests on the day for their fabulous food.

A special thank you goes to the Art Department for the loan of the student artwork and to Ms Scoulding with help from the Design Technology teachers for setting the lovely scene in our Afternoon Tea room.

Presdales Fundraising

June 12, 2026/in Events, General News, Information /by Presdales School

Fundraising for Isabel Hospice in memory of Ms Rowe

In February 2026, our dear colleague and friend, Sam Rowe, lost her life to cancer. She was a fantastic teacher who worked tirelessly for her students at the Presdales School for almost 20 years. She was also a passionate and very accomplished runner.

In memory of Sam, 27 runners (Presdales staff, past and present, as well as Sam’s husband, sister, brother-in- law and nephew) will take part in the Ware 10 race, challenging themselves to run 10 km or 10 miles, in order to raise money for Isabel Hospice. The race will take place on Sunday, 5th July.

For many of us running 10 km or 10 miles will be quite challenging, so please consider donating to our fundraising page to support this amazing charity and allow them to continue their irreplaceable work. Any amount, big or small, will give us a much needed boost.

See some of the staff running and volunteering at the event in the group photo as well as some of us in full training, especially Mrs Teal’s and Mrs Nicholls’ very cute dogs! We also include a link to the Ware10 in case you would like to come and encourage us on the day!
