Football

U13s

Great performance from our U13s who defeated St Albans High School for Girls (STAHS) 8-0 in the first round of the County Cup. The girls dominated the match from start to finish playing some wonderful football. The POTM was tied between 3 players (voted by the girls themselves). Well done to Aleksandra Ivaskeviciute, AJ Dew and Mae Tallant.

U14s

County Cup

Well done to our U14s who won their first round tie in the County Cup by a resounding 12-1 against Hertswood School. After a bit of a slow start, the girls motored through the gears and completely dominated the match with some fantastic football. Player of the Match (voted by the girls themselves) was Mia Schillachi-Rowland who scored a double hat trick!

National Schools Football Cup

Strong performance from our U14 girls this week in the National Schools Football Cup against City of London Academy winning 10-0. Great performances all over the pitch with some lovely flowing football and fantastic teamwork. Player of the Match (voted by the girls themselves) was Liv White. This means the girls move into the 3rd round of the tournament and will now face strong opponents, Woodlands School in Basildon. Well done to all the girls and we look forward to the challenge of the next round.

U16s

What an epic match against Rickmansworth in the first round of the U16s Football County Cup! Despite almost total domination from Presdales and hitting the woodwork several times, we amazingly found ourselves 0-3 down with less than 15mins left to play! Then came the turnaround of all turnarounds with the girls scoring 4 times to win the match 4-3. The third and fourth goals came in the last 5 minutes, the winner scored with around 90 secs left. The sheer determination, resilience and never say die attitude from our girls was truly admirable. They kept going and kept going until we eventually found the back of the net! Definitely the most dramatic match I’ve been involved in so far at Presdales. Rickmansworth voted Donya Freckleton as POTM, however they were ALL star players today. Well done girls!!

Cross Country

Well done to our cross country runners who took part in the third and final race of the league on Wednesday! Congratulations to the following students and teams who won medals in the league…

Year 7

Skye Martin – Overall 1st

Ella Reynolds – Overall 2nd

Amelie Martin – Overall 3rd

Year 8/9

Olivia Holme – Overall 2nd

Year 8/9 team – Overall 1st

Year 10+ Girls

Beth Botheras – Overall 1st

Congratulations to all our amazing athletes!

Netball

Year 7

Well done to all the Year 7’s who played netball against Simon Balle last night! The first team won 35-3 and POTM was Amelie Martin. The second team also won 34-10 and the POTM was Olivia Kemp. Amazing work girls, great start to the season!

Year 9

Well done to the Year 9 netball teams who played against Simon Balle this week. Despite both teams losing players to the U14 National Cup game that was also going on, the quality of netball was high. The ‘A’ team won 36-21. Star Player was Sofia Smith. The ‘B’ team won 32-7 and Star Player was Hannah McGowan. Well done to all of the girls and thank you to those who stepped into complete the teams.

Year 10

Well done to our Year 10 netball teams who also played against Simon Balle this week. The A team won 32-14 and the POTM was Rosie Bentley. The B team won 42-19 and the POTM was Olivia Watson. Great work girls, well done!

News from Psychology

October 20, 2023/in Psychology /by Presdales School

Elizabeth Green, ex-Year 13 Psychology student, has just had an article she wrote whilst at school published in the Student Corner of the ATP Today magazine (the Association for the Teaching of Psychology). She rose to the challenge of researching and writing her own article, choosing to focus on the fascinating topic of Dance Movement Psychotherapy with a piece entitled: ‘How can movement heal your brain?’.

News from Music

October 20, 2023/in Music /by Presdales School

The Music Department has enjoyed a busy first half term of the year with all pupils in Year 7, 8, and 9 preparing to share their music lesson performance skills in a concert on 9th November at 6pm. The concert theme is Around the World in 80 Minutes with Year 9 performing Samba, Year 8 Djembe Drumming, and Year 7 performing on Ukuleles. All Year groups will perform a song they have learned in class, we have seen the benefits to students who have embraced the challenges of whole class performance and begun to understand the context of music from different parts of the globe. At this concert will also have performances from our two vocal groups Presdales Singers and Concert Voices, with the String Group showcasing their talents as well.

The Music Department’s Cello, Flute, and Clarinet Academy groups offering free tuition on these instruments as part of a lunchtime club are thriving. The cello academy is full but there are spaces in the flute and clarinet groups for those interested. We also have around 180 pupils receiving one-to-one tuition on an instrument, and we welcome our visiting experts each week to develop the musical abilities of Presdales students.

After half term, students both in class music and in extracurricular groups, will begin preparing for our school Carol Service which will be held at St Mary’s Church, Ware, on 12th December at 6pm. We look forward to seeing you on 9th November and at the Carol Service.

News from Politics

October 20, 2023/in Departments, General News, Politics, Trips & Visits /by Presdales School

Year 12 Trip to Parliament

On the 6th October the Year 12 Politics students set off to London to visit some of the most important political buildings in the country. After catching a train, bright and early, we arrived at Westminster for our tour of Parliament. We were led by two tour guides, equally witty and insightful. We were stunned at the decorative design of the House of Lords – covered in gold leaf and the famous red leather – howether we made sure not to sit down! Our friendly tour guides talked to us about the job of the Lords and how they become appointed. Next we wandered into the House of Commons where we were informed about where different parties sit and the history of the rebuilding of this half of Parliament. We had time to look at the central lobby of Parliament and its incredible statues, before taking a group picture and saying goodbye to Emmet and Ben – our lovely guides.

After our tour we went to the education centre and took part in a group activity to help us understand the role of the House of Lords and the House of Commons. We were split into teams and debated on the topic of free university education. A big thank you to our group leader Celeste.

After a lunch break in the sun, we headed to the Supreme Court, where we experienced a fascinating exhibition about its history and importance in our government. We read about the compelling stories of minority and female judges paving the way of our country’s legal system before having a chance to look around the courts themselves – where we took a group picture. Overall we think everyone would agree this day was both informative and fun,

We would like to say a big thankyou to Miss Chandler and Mr Spurgeon for organizing this wonderful day and ensuring everybody got there and back safely.

Dear parent/carers,

My name is Ms Coulson, and I am the new Equality, Diversity and Inclusion lead here at Presdales. In every issue of PressTales I will be showcasing work that we’ve been doing in school, or things that I have come across of interest that deal with issues around equity and diversity. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to email me on mcoulson@presdales.herts.sch.uk

This month we have been celebrating Black History Month. The theme has been ‘celebrating our sisters’ so we have been speaking lots about inspiration black women. Students have been learning about the amazing contributions that black women have made across their lessons. There has also been assemblies, a poetry competition and attending an especially themed film club.
