The U14s journey in the National Schools Cup came to an end last week losing 2-3 to FitzWimarc School. We couldn’t be more proud of the girls who gave everything. It was a hard fought match between two excellent teams. Presdales created a lot of chances but in the end, we just couldn’t find the back of the net often enough. The winning goal was scored from a free kick with only 1 min left which was a killer blow. Well done to all the students for a valiant effort in progressing to the last 32 and being so close to reaching the final 16. Coaches PoTM is the Whole Team!
County Cup
The U14s cast aside the disappointment of going out of the National Cup on Monday to secure a place in the County Cup semi final last Wednesday, winning 4-2 against Ashlyns!
The girls deserve enormous credit playing two huge games in the space of 48 hours against really tough opposition. Ashlyns proved to be a real test and had the better of the first half but we finished the first half a goal apiece. It was clear we would really have to step up a level in the second half.
The girls did exactly that and started to control the game, create more chances and nullify the threat from Ashlyns. We scored during this period of ascendency to go 2-1 up from an absolute ‘worldie’ from Liv White striking an unstoppable half volley from over 20 yards which flew into the net!
Ashlyns fought back to equalise and clearly weren’t going to lie down. They went close to taking the lead before Marlee Seymour tucked us in front with her second goal of the match and then completed her hat-trick with a fantastic steal from the press, a lighting turn of pace and then a lovely composed finish. This gave Presdales a 2 goal cushion going into the final 10mins where a more cautious approach saw us through to the final whistle.
We can’t say enough about this group. They are simply amazing! It was clear the enormous physical and emotional efforts of Monday had taken their toll in the first half but the girls somehow found the resilience to up their energy levels and put in a wonderful second half display.
Last week has seen the U14s play two exceptionally strong sides back to back. I’m so delighted they bounced back and they can now look forward to a County Cup Semi Final.
Hard to pick Coaches PoTM with so many great performances, however Marlee edges it with her best game of the season, constantly harrying their defence and scoring a fantastic hat-trick. Well done to all the girls!
Indoor Athletics
On Monday 22nd January we took a team of girls from Year 7-10 to the Indoor Athletics Competition at the Lea Valley in Enfield. There were 13 other schools from all around Hertfordshire. They were brilliant!!! Excellent effort from all of the athletes, some great times and distances thrown and jumped. Excellent teamwork in the relays and the girls came away as CHAMPIONS!!!!!
Individual year group results were
U13 (Year 7) – 2nd
U15 (Year 8/9) – 1st

Netball
Year 9
Congratulations to the Year 9 A and B netball teams who did the double at the District Netball tournament on Tuesday and won both competitions! Both teams were undefeated! The A team only conceded 10 goals in 3 games and scored over 30!!
Star Player for the A team was Clemmie Fells showing supreme versatility and an excellent reach to make so many key tips and interceptions!
Star Player for the B team was Kennedy Scott working hard, driving into space, and giving our shooters as many opportunities as possible.
A great team performance by both teams! Well done to all of the girls who took part!
Years 8 and 10
Congratulations to the Year 8 and Year 10 netball teams who both made it to the semi-finals of the County Cup Competition this season. They both played St Albans High School on Wednesday and we are so proud of both teams!!
Although the results were not what we hoped, they worked relentlessly to produce some incredibly impressive elements of play throughout the court.
Well done girls, you definitely showed the High School why you deserved to be County Cup SEMI FINALISTS!
Year 8

Year 10

Seniors
Great work from the senior netball team who unfortunately lost 34-29 against Chauncy in the County Cup Plate semi-final this week.
It was a close game and, with only 7 players, the girls worked incredibly hard throughout but unfortunately lost out in the final quarter. POTM was Jess Ward.

Last week we commemorated Holocaust memorial day which is on the 27th January every year. This is the day that the largest of the Nazi death camps, Auschwitz-Birkenau, was liberated.
The theme for this year was ‘the fragility of freedom’. Students participated in a SMSC session during form time. This was written by Mrs Workman and 2 Year 12 Historians Flora Rowley and Esme Sabin. They did an amazing job and getting us to have thought provoking discussions about anti Semitism and other forms of persecution. We learnt how important it is to stand up against all forms of persecution, regardless of if they affect us or not.
Below is a link about Holocaust memorial days and things that we all can do.
