Take Your Daughter to Work Day 2023

For Take Your Daughter To Work day, I went to Luminescence which is an ink lab. When there I got to print inks and colour match with Garry (one of my parent’s co-workers). It was a very enlightening experience and I learnt about all kinds of machinery and techniques about ink and how it’s made and printed.

I went to my dad’s work, who works for Shell as a business analyst and his office is in London. At first I didn’t really want to go because I thought it would be very boring but it ended up being really fun and interesting.

I had to wake up at 6am and we got the train to King’s Cross, then we walked 40 mins to the building where he works. First my dad gave me a tour of the place and then he showed me the type of work he does. I also chatted to some of my dad’s friends and they told me what they do. After lunch my dad had a meeting and I was lucky enough to sit there and listen, although I didn’t understand much. Then we walked back to the train station and went home.

On take your daughter to work day I met with my aunt to work with her for the day at her PR company, The Heard. I travelled into London after school on the Wednesday evening. In the morning, we woke up early and travelled to her office in South Bank. When I arrived she asked me to look at a powerpoint presentation which was a survey about my perspectives on things, it was a survey that she was working on for a client. In the afternoon I sat in one of her client meetings (Edinburgh Gin) and took some notes. We then went to the Tate Modern to look at some of the art.

The best thing about my day was the experience of working in London and the atmosphere around me.

I was lucky enough to spend the day working with my mum who is a florist. The day starts with ‘conditioning’ new flowers which means cutting the ends and stripping all the leaves off every stem. Then I helped wrap some of the orders and made boxes to put the bouquets in ready for delivery. I got to help put together a coronation display for an exclusive local hotel and helped deliver the display with the driver Dave. I also helped deliver the orders to addresses all over Hertford and surrounding villages.
