Drama Department

The Drama Department is delighted to see performances again in the Drama studio! We would like to congratulate all Drama students who have now completed their study of GCSE and A Level Drama: thank you for all your hard work. Even when we couldn’t break away from the screen to be creative, you showed commitment and enthusiasm and found a way to make learning fun!

GCSE Drama

Year 10

On the 26th May GCSE Drama (Year 10) performed in their mock exam for Devising Drama. The department were surprised by how much they had managed to prepare in the rehearsal time they had, a reflection of their hard work and extra dedicated hours in the studio. After their exam fortnight they will be back in rehearsal making final developments for their exam in July.

Year 11

GCSE Drama students hugely impressed us by managing against the odds to complete all performance components of their GCSE Drama. This meant that we were treated to exam productions, and it felt exhilarating to see the students live in performance again!

Component 1

Devising Drama is where the students respond to a stimulus from the exam board and create their own productions. Year 11 students impressively planned and rehearsed online, and paused and returned and rehearsed together – and remotely – and somehow performed to their class and camera!

Year 11 also managed to present their scripted performances to camera working very hard together in limited rehearsal time but arriving well prepared, having learnt their lines and planned direction of movement and staging.

A Level Drama

Year 12

Year 12 presented their devised performances in their mock exam on 26th May, responding to Kafka’s text ‘Metamorphosis’. The A Level students had a vast amount of ideas in their response and are now focussing on their chosen ideas for presenting their productions! We have already been really impressed with the standard of acting and how they have taken inspiration from their practitioner ‘Splendid Theatre’. Good luck in the last weeks of rehearsal before your final exam in July!

Year 13

Congratulations to Year 13 for completing their A Level Drama and Theatre studies! Huge applause for your hard work across the two years and your resilience given the circumstances. It was lovely to get to watch your examined monologues last term. Some great talent again leaves us to pursue further study in performance: keep in touch!
