Year 7 Art Club

Year 7 have really been amazing in Art club this term showing pure enjoyment and maturity throughout. We are delighted with their pine cone Christmas trees. We were delighted to welcome an extra member to our decoration workshop – see if you can spot Mrs Inwood in the photos!

The Art room was full of laughter and smiles and had a wonderful festive atmosphere.

We wish you all a very happy Christmas together and look forward to seeing new recruits in the new year.

Year 8

Year 8 have been learning about Dia de los Muertos or Day of the Dead. The Mexican tradition takes place annually as a happy celebration to honour loved ones who are no longer with us, rather than mourning their death. They began by researching the tradition and have just completed their own ‘Papel Picado ‘ in coloured sugar paper.

Papel picado literally means ‘punched’ or ‘perforated’ paper. This traditional cut paper folk art is found throughout Mexico and the former colonies of Spain.

During Day of the Dead, papel picado serves as a symbol of the fragility of life. The yellow and purple colours often used during Día de Muertos symbolize purity and mourning, and it is believed that the holes in the tissue paper make it possible for the souls to travel and visit us.

The Art room windows are now adorned with their beautiful, colourful ‘Papel Picado’. Well done Year 8 and thank-you for adding so much colour to our windows.

Year 12 Photography

Year 12 Photographers are currently studying portraiture as a theme. In November they participated in an all day workshop where they were able to explore Light painting and Bokeh techniques.

They experimented with the shutter speed and aperture to achieve a range of outcomes using artificial and natural lighting. Not only did they produce fantastic results but they were able to learn so much.
