The English Department was delighted to receive so many entries for the competition this year. It was wonderful to see that lots of students found time to enjoy some escapist writing during lockdown. The theme this year was adventure: students were challenged to write an opening chapter for a story with a title that must include one of our House colours. Entries demonstrated the wealth of talent and brilliance of imagination at Presdales, with settings ranging from distant planets and the far future to Caribbean islands and icy underground caves. Choosing winners was very tough and we’d like to congratulate all the entrants for their effort and creativity. The winners are: Year 7 – Ryah in 7TH (Curie) for One Yellow Sun Year 8 – Joint winners: Martha in 8AS (Curie) for Killing Time: The Purple Button and Madison in 8JC (Pankhurst) for One Last Purple Pearl Year 9 – Abbie in 9AL (Curie) for It was the Red Rum Year 10 – Brooke in 10EB (Windsor) for Code Purple Year 11 – Charlotte in 11SL (Frank) for Green Paradise Year 12 – Arianne in 6PR (Parks) for Waving the Red Flag Year 13 – Talitha in 6AH (Pankhurst) for Purple Flame Staff winner – Mr Boyter (Nightingale) for The Red Book of Dalibor Since we were unable to hold an awards ceremony this year, we are celebrating with videos of staff reading extracts from the winning entries. These are available to watch below. Thank you to everyone who entered and families at home for encouraging and inspiring our writers. Ms HobbsHouse Creative Writing Competition
