Lunchtime Talks
Our Careers Week lunchtime talks included representatives from a number of different sectors, including Law, The Performing Arts, Hospitality and Education. Each completed a presentation and Q&A which were well received by the students. We were pleased with the number of students who attended and it was great to see that they were engaged throughout, asking lots of insightful questions.
Year 12 Careers Morning
On Tuesday 5th March we ran a Careers morning for our Year 12 students. We were extremely lucky to have 30 volunteers giving up their time to talk about their career, what they do, how they got into it, a typical day/week, routes into that career etc. This was then followed by a short Q&A.
We grouped our speakers by sector, including the Police, HR, the Home Office, Finance and Law, and our students were asked to sign up to the talks that they were interested in. This event was greatly appreciated by our Year 12 students who found the morning both enjoyable and useful.
Assembly
Our assembly on Thursday was delivered by an ex-student who combined careers and International Women’s Day. Our visitor talked of her experience of life in the workplace, the Data Centre industry and diversity challenges. Our Years 11 to 13 were engaged throughout and their feedback was really positive. It is always wonderful to have ex-students back into school – they are great role models and an inspiration to our current students.
Year 10 ‘Big Interview Day’
For this event, we had 13 visitors coming into school to help with mock interviews. The students took a copy of the CV they created in Unifrog during the CV writing workshops before half term. Our Year 10s spent 10/15 minutes with the interviewer discussing their CV and being asked a few questions, giving them a chance to use the interview skills they learnt in the workshops.
It was a very enjoyable day with excellent participation and interaction from the students. The feedback, from the external interviewers, was extremely positive. This event, which we believe is an important addition to our careers curriculum, would not have been as successful without the involvement and hard work of our amazing volunteers. It would be great to have more parents and alumni involved next year.
