February 13, 2026/in Music /by Presdales School

In Year 7 Music lessons, students have been developing their reading of notated rhythm by performing as a three-part percussion ensemble. Each part had an independent rhythmic line, and students performed with either a drum, a pair of claves (wooden sticks) or a metal instrument such as a cymbal. Using Lunar New Year celebrations as a focus, pupils also composed and notated their own music for a three-part percussion ensemble. Each pupil then learned the percussion part and dragon dance for a special Presdales New Year dragon dance and percussion piece, which we performed in class.

Netball

U14s

REGIONAL CHAMPIONS!! NATIONALS HERE WE COME!

Massive congratulations to our U14 netball team who remained undefeated all day at the Regional finals and have qualified for the National Schools Netball Finals in March.

The girls worked relentlessly throughout the group stages to claim top spot of the pool, meaning they faced Norwich in the semi final, where they won 13-4 to secure their place in the final.

The final was unsurprisingly a repeat of the county round final against a strong St Edmund’s side. The game was goal for goal and ended up going to extra time where Presdales never stopped giving their all for a 13-12 win!

We are SO excited to see what we can achieve at Nationals and as always are so proud of you all for your ongoing commitment, versatility and determination as a team (especially on a very long, wet day)!

Bring on the National Finals on Saturday 21st March!

Year 10

Another fantastic performance in our County League campaign as the girls came away with a 45–22 win against Abbott’s Hill.

An all round polished performance with superb drives, accurate feeds, tight defending and sharp shooting.

OPOM Lottie and CPOM Immy

Year 9

Congratulations to the fabulous Year 9s who both won their tournaments so are now District Champions!

The A team remained undefeated throughout becoming Cup Champions, and the B team only dropped one game against Avanti A team resulting in being crowned Plate winners. Great work teams. POM Savannah and POM Liv. Special shout out and welcome to the squad Daisy.

The Year 9 netball team also won their county league match against HABS on Wednesday 43-20.

Great opportunity to try out some different combinations and demonstrate the girls versatility throughout court.

OPOM Savannah and CPOM Liv

Year 7

Well done to the Year 7 netballers who recently played against Simon Balle!

Presdales won 22-11 – POTM voted by SBS was Gracie. Presdales won 28-11 – POTM voted by SBS was Lexie.

Great results for your first matches representing Presdales!

More Year 7 netballers in action last week! We had two teams compete against Ralph Sadleir; you all played brilliantly! Team 1 won 8-4 and POTM voted as Libby & Team 2 drew 2-2 and POTM voted as Hettie and Sumaya.

Year 10 & 11

Well done to our Year 10s and 11s who played against HABS last week in a friendly and the County League, respectively. All of the girls showed excellent teamwork. The core Year 11 girls who have continued to remain committed to the team have welcomed the Year 10s into the team so well, working hard to support them and encourage some great play. The girls started slowly in the first quarter, but began to find their feet in the following quarters, showing some great defensive resilience, turning the ball over well and taking it to goal. Against a tough opposition who were well rehearsed and drilled the girls did themselves proud and narrowly lost 20-16.

Thank you to the Year 10s who stepped in so that the fixture could go ahead.

The Year 10 friendly match ended with a win 17-14, with many of our 10s playing out of position! The game was played with great team spirit and, despite the rain, a good time was had by all! Well done to all of the girls. Year 11 Star Player – Clemmie and Year 10 Star Player – Deshna.

Year 8

The Year 8 Netball team travelled to the Royal Masonic School in Buckinghamshire on Tuesday for a County League game. They started off strong with some great turnovers to be 10-5 up in the first quarter. They continued with this effort and determination for the rest of the match and went on to win 31-20. Star Player – captain Scarlett C. Well done girls!!!

Last week the Year 8C team played netball against Ralph Sadleir. They worked so hard, great movement throughout the game but lost by 5 goals. Well done to you all!!

U16s

Well done to the U16 netball team who won 23-13 against STAHS B team this week! A great team performance of good solid netball. Excellent drives, shooting and interceptions!

Oppositions POTM Scarlett

Football

U13s

District League Really determined and committed performance from the U13s in the District League against Avanti Grange. Avanti dominated the first half, going into half time leading 1-0. Some good saves from Layla prevented Avanti scoring again.

Some changes at half time led to Presdales getting on the ball a lot more and creating chances. This led to a deserved equaliser and at that stage it looked like Presdales would go on and win the match. However, we couldn’t quite get the second goal and then a lucky break of the ball resulted in Avanti scoring again to win the match 2-1.

Proud of the effort put in by all the girls who couldn’t have tried harder. I also want to thank the three Year 7 pupils who helped out at the last minute when we found that we only had eight players earlier in the day.

Coaches PotM is shared between Layla and Francesca. Well done to all the girls!

County Cup Our U13s football team travelled to Monks Walk School for their County Cup Qtr Final. The girls started brightly, dominating possession and creating a number of chances.

Presdales deservedly took the lead mid way through the first half and a fantastic save from Hannah H prevented an equaliser. The girls scored a second goal to lead 2-0 at half time.

The tie was far from over and Monks Walk came out all guns blazing in the second half. However, Presdales soon began to regain control and added a further two goals to win the match 4-0.

The girls can feel proud of their victory against a strong Monks Walk team and can now look forward to a County Cup Semi Final against St Albans High School. This will take place after half term.

Coaches PotM is Isabelle I who scored two goals and was a constant threat. Well done to all the girls!

Year 9

The Year 9 Football team recently played Haileybury Turnford in the District Cup. First half did not give lots of opportunities and unfortunately a disallowed goal (offside) meant we went 1-0 down. Some fab saves from Fran, great team work and determination from all girls turned this around and we ended up winning 5-1!! Well done all!

Oppositions player was Zosia – solid defence and calmness on the ball!

U15s

Congratulations to our super talented U15s Football Team who have reached the Quarter Finals of the National Cup with a 4-1 win against Thorpe St Andrews school, who travelled from Norwich.

This was another fantastic performance from Presdales against a strong and highly competitive team. Once the girls had settled into their stride, they began to wrestle control of the game and create chances. This led to the opening goal and then a second, which was another ‘worldie’ from our Captain Ava M, to give Presdales a 2-0 lead at the break.

Thorpe came out fighting in the second half and scored to make it 2-1. Thorpe were then awarded a penalty kick which would have levelled the scores going into the final 20 minutes. We needn’t have worried as Ruby U saved the penalty! This shifted the momentum back in Presdales favour and a further two goals sealed a well deserved 4-1 win.

I have run out of superlatives to describe this group of girls. They attack as a team and they defend as a team. I’m incredibly proud of them and they deserve every success. We now look forward to a Qtr Final match which will take place after half term. This is an outstanding achievement from the girls. Fingers crossed we get a Home draw!

All of the girls were fantastic, but Coaches PotM goes to Ava M who again put in a real Captain’s performance. She covered every blade of grass and scored two goals!

U14s

District League The U14 footballers played out a hard fought 2-2 draw against Chauncy in the District League last Thursday. The girls went 0-1 behind but recovered to score twice and lead 2-1. Chauncy never gave up and grabbed an equaliser in the final minutes of the game. It was an evenly contested match and a fair result. Coaches PotM is Shannon O. Well done to all the girls.

County Cup Our U14s football team battled hard and showed commitment right to the end in a 6-1 loss to Sandringham on Monday in the Qtr Final of the County Cup.

This was a 50:50 game in terms of balance of play, however mistakes in important moments and not taking our chances makes the scoreline look like a very comfortable victory for Sandringham.

I’m sure the girls will learn from the experience. That’s football sometimes.

Coaches PotM is Ella R. Great effort shown by all the girls.

U16s

Commanding performance from our U16s football team who won 10-0 against Dame Alice Owen’s in the County Cup Qtr Final.

The girls played some beautiful football and at times it was a joy to watch. The girls will now meet Sandringham in the Semi Final with the opportunity to reach their 3rd consecutive County Cup final.

Coaches PotM is shared between Annabel G and Keira G. Well done to all the girls!

Cross Country

Congratulations to all of our cross-country runners who ran in the County Schools Cross at Westminster Park in St Albans. Following the wet weather recently it was a very muddy course, all runners advised to have spikes otherwise you would be struggling to complete this course!

A great run from Jacob (6th form) finishing in 15th. Amelie Martin in Year 9 came a solid 23rd out of 100+ runners. Strong last lap over taking several runners!

Isla and Amelia in Year 7 ran a fantastic first secondary school first cross-country race finishing 17th and 21st respectively.

Well done all!

Sportshall Athletics

Well done to the Year 7 and 8 Sportshall team who competed in the second round of the Sportshall Athletics event on Wednesday! Some excellent performances and podium places in the different events!
