‘The Glass Princess’
K R Boyter

Personal Biography:

“A man can do all things if he wills them.”
Leon Battista Alberti (1404 – 1472)

Born in Hertford, Ken is a writer and performer, co-creator and host of the fantasy YouTube channel The Bottled Imp, and creator of the Mythical Tales from Edra.

Ken created the Mythical Tales from Edra to showcase his fantasy literature, spoken word audiobooks, visuals, and creative projects, all set in the mythical world of Edra. Ken’s love of writing and storytelling started early; he loved listening to his mum read him stories in bed; ‘Where The Wild Things Are’ by Maurice Sendak being his favourite. He’s fond memories of sitting in front of the telly after school, watching ‘Dungeons & Dragons’, ‘Jim Henson’s The Storyteller’, ‘Knightmare’, ‘The Adventure Game’, and ‘Monkey’. All those immersive stories had one thing in common: fantasy.

Ken studied English Literature at the University of Sussex to gain critical insights into the novel. One of his favourite modules was the Gothic Horror where he studied classics such as ‘Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus’ (Mary Shelley), ‘Dracula’ (Bram Stoker), ‘Turn of the Screw’ (Henry James), and ‘Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde’ (Robert Louis Stevenson). This encouraged him to write his illustrated epic folklore verse-book ‘The Legends of Grimous Ironblood’, and thus create the world of Edra.

‘The Glass Princess’

Ken was inspired to animate his story ‘The Glass Princess’, taken from the ‘The Storyteller’s Apprentice’ stage play first performed at the Edinburgh Festival. The story tells of sibling rivalry, a struggle for power, extreme cruelty, and extreme kindness.

The Queen of the realm gives birth to a beautiful baby girl, Princess Lilithena, who grows to be popular. Unfortunately her older brother, Prince Elrad, grows jealous and bitter and takes advantage of dark magic and a family tragedy to claim power and rule alone. Can the Princess and the power of love break the darkness?

‘The Glass Princess’ is written, animated, edited, and narrated by K R Boyter.

Southern Maltings 5 Minute Film Festival

I entered it into the Southern Maltings Theatre 5 Minute Film Animation Competition they ran in May of this year. They had 11 Grand Finalists (from which they picked an over all winner), and 16 Runners-Up, I was one of the runners-up. They had over 900 entries from all over the world.

My film was then screened on their live stream as part of two evenings: the Runners-Up live stream evening, and the Grand Finalist live stream evening back in August.

Here’s a link to their website page all about it:
