Pancake Day
Last week, Design and Technology combined their Week of Culture activities with hosting their first cooking challenge of the year. Teams of KS3 students, from Years 7 and 8, representing each of the Houses had to produce pancakes which were judged by a panel based on presentation, flavour and texture. The judges were really impressed by the quality of the pancakes and the creativity of the entries, who all worked excellently together to present their pancakes within the time limit.
Thank you to all the Year 7 and 8 students who took part, as well as to our judges Mrs Garcia, Mrs Schillaci-Rowland and Mrs Dray, who also helped to run the competition on the day.

The Russian department used the opportunity provided by culture week to find out more about Maslenitsa (Shrovetide/butter week) in Russia. This is pancake day spread over a week and this year fell exactly on Monday 20th. Students discovered some common pancake fillings and practiced ordering them as well as discovering some traditional elements of the celebration.
