Options at GCSE
At the end of Key Stage 3, your child will be asked to choose their GCSE subjects. They then spend Years 10 and 11 studying these subjects.
In the autumn term of Year 9, you will be asked to specify which GCSE subjects your child would like to study in addition to the Core Curriculum.
To help in this decision, an options information booklet is produced which contains comprehensive information about the curriculum content of each subject studied in the Core Curriculum, as well as those offered as Option Choices.
The options selection process starts in Year 9 when in September there is an options information assembly for the students. During the following few weeks, your child will have an informal consultation with a member of the Senior Management Staff at Presdales to discuss their subject preferences. Every student will also experience taster sessions in the four subjects not already taken in years 7 to 9 – Sociology, Business, Media Studies and Health & Social Care.
In addition, we hold a GCSE Options Evening with a presentation at which the curriculum structure and option process will be explained. This usually takes place at the end of November and both you and your child are invited.
