News from Music
The Music Department has enjoyed a busy first half term of the year with all pupils in Year 7, 8, and 9 preparing to share their music lesson performance skills in a concert on 9th November at 6pm. The concert theme is Around the World in 80 Minutes with Year 9 performing Samba, Year 8 Djembe Drumming, and Year 7 performing on Ukuleles. All Year groups will perform a song they have learned in class, we have seen the benefits to students who have embraced the challenges of whole class performance and begun to understand the context of music from different parts of the globe. At this concert will also have performances from our two vocal groups Presdales Singers and Concert Voices, with the String Group showcasing their talents as well.
The Music Department’s Cello, Flute, and Clarinet Academy groups offering free tuition on these instruments as part of a lunchtime club are thriving. The cello academy is full but there are spaces in the flute and clarinet groups for those interested. We also have around 180 pupils receiving one-to-one tuition on an instrument, and we welcome our visiting experts each week to develop the musical abilities of Presdales students.
After half term, students both in class music and in extracurricular groups, will begin preparing for our school Carol Service which will be held at St Mary’s Church, Ware, on 12th December at 6pm. We look forward to seeing you on 9th November and at the Carol Service.
