Options at GCSE
At the end of Key Stage 3, your child will be asked to choose their GCSE subjects. They then spend Years 10 and 11 studying these subjects.
In the spring term of Year 9, you will be asked to specify which GCSE subjects your child would like to study in addition to the Core Curriculum.
To help in this decision, an options information booklet is produced which contains comprehensive information about the curriculum content of each subject studied in the Core Curriculum, as well as those offered as Option Choices.
The options selection process starts in Year 9 when in January there is an options information assembly for the students. During the following few weeks, your child will then have an informal consultation with a member of the Senior Management Staff at Presdales to discuss their subject preferences.
In addition, we hold a GCSE Options Evening with a presentation at which the curriculum structure and option process will be explained. This usually takes place at the end of January/early February and both you and your child are invited.
