Year 9 teach German and Italian to children in Primary School
On Wednesday 27th September, 10 of our Year 9 students went to St Andrew’s Primary School in Stansted Abbotts to deliver taster sessions in German and Italian. Our German students taught greetings and colours to Year 5 with the help of a song and our visiting German teacher from our partner school in Erkrath. Our Italian students taught greetings and how to buy and ice cream to Year 6 students.
The primary school children were a delight to teach. They picked up the new language very quickly and were very confident in there speaking. Our students performed the role of teacher very well and have completed the first task of their Language Leader qualification. Well done to all involved!
After a wonderful lie in until 7.30 that morning, I got up and got ready for our day out at St Andrews Primary. We were going to run two language workshops with the year 5 and 6 class and hopefully give them a little introduction to Italian and German at Presdales.
As part of the Italian group, early highlights included us being allowed inside a staffroom for possibly the first time ever and all my old teachers announcing how grown up I looked!
We began our day by meeting the new year 6 students and then did a few fun language games to warm up – slap the board was a particular favourite as bitter rivalries emerged between each half of the class! Then it was time for the role play and it was lovely seeing the students getting stuck in with Italian. We loved wandering around and chatting to the students and by the end of the lesson a couple were even brave enough to perform their role plays to the class! Overall it was a brilliant session and I really enjoyed getting hands on and helping them all learn a little Italian! I look forward to meeting some of them next year at Presdales!
