Entry requirements: GCSE grade 6 in Design & Technology
Product Design (3-D Design) helps students take a broad view of design and technology, develop their capacity to design and make products and appreciate the complex relations between design, materials, manufacture and marketing. The specification retains much of the content of the previous A-level specification and continues to provide students with the opportunity to design and make a product in both years of the course. This specification has been designed to encourage candidates to take a broad view of design and technology, to develop their capacity to design and make products and to appreciate the complex relations between design, materials, manufacture and marketing. This creative and thought-provoking qualification gives students the practical skills, theoretical knowledge and confidence to succeed in a number of careers, especially those in the creative industries. They will investigate historical, social, cultural, environmental and economic influences on design and technology, whilst enjoying opportunities to put their learning in to practice by producing prototypes of their choice. Design and Technology is an excellent stepping stone to a degree course at university or Art College. Further study could lead to a wide range of exciting careers including: product design, graphic design, fashion design, theatre design, architecture, marketing, retail management, marketing and teaching.Assessment
