From 17th to 24th January, a group of twelve Year 10 and two Year 12 students took part in the Spanish exchange to Barcelona. Every day was filled with many cultural activities and we were able to spend time practising our Spanish with our exchange partners and their families.
“The best trip we’ve ever been on!” – Emma
“I can’t wait to go back!” – Tawonga
An early start on Tuesday morning enabled us to make the most of our first day in Barcelona. This included having lunch with our families and walking around Barcelona with a short stop for some churros. From this day onwards, many more activities were organised, including a visit to the Catalan Parliament, a trip on the tourist bus to visit Gaudí’s Sagrada Familia and Park G?ell, as well as the Picasso Museum and the Boquería market. We also had the chance to go to some lessons with our exchange partners and take part in special Spanish and science activities at the school.
“I loved the food, especially the churros!” – Quynh-Phi
“The trip was a very good experience for learning about a different culture” – Sabrina
The weekend soon came and this gave us the chance to spend more time with the families – and have a lie in! Many of us went to sports matches where we supported our exchange partners. Then came Monday, our final day with the families. During the day, we visited the Barrio Gótico, the cathedral and a Gaudí museum. Then in the evening, everyone went to a nearby shopping centre to play a farewell game of bowling.
“It was A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!” – Tilly
“One of the best experiences I’ve ever had” – Hannah
On our final morning, the school provided us with a farewell breakfast where all the exchange students gathered together for the last time until May. Many tears were shed and many photos were taken. Thanks to this trip I believe that everyone has made some new, lifelong friends, improved their Spanish and their knowledge of Spanish culture. Therefore, I believe that on behalf of the group of students that went on this amazing trip, there must be a big thank you to Mrs Russ and Miss Price for organising it and helping it to become a memory for us to keep.
“Two words: best experience!” – Amy
“When can we go back?” – Charlie
