Presdales is a six form entry school for girls aged eleven to eighteen. We welcome boys in the sixth form.

Pastoral

Pastoral care is considered very important and a variety of support strategies are available if needed. Girls are placed in a form group on entering the school which is of mixed ability and contains friendship groups made in primary school.

What is the provision for supporting students with Special Educational Needs through the transition process?

We work closely with primary schools to share information about Year 6 pupils and to manage transitions. This would normally include a member of Presdales pastoral/SEND team visiting students in their primary school setting. If we are made aware of students that require additional support there are a number of things that we offer:

They would usually be invited to visit Presdales with their parent/carer to meet with myself and/or the Head of Year 7/Pastoral Head of KS3. During this visit they would normally have a tour of the school, if desired. If the child needs additional classroom support (whether due to a learning/SEMH need) we can arrange a pupil passport in advance of starting at Presdales which would include information about strengths/difficulties the student has, plus strategies to support them. This would be done with myself, the parent/carer and the student, it would then be shared with your daughter’s teachers at the start of Year 7.

We would normally offer an additional “event” within school for all students who are the only student from their Primary school to be coming to Presdales. We include those students identified as having SEN to attend as well to allow the students to explore the site and have additional time to feel relaxed within the new environment.

Can my daughter have Music lessons?

All our students will have one music lesson per week. Should you wish your daughter to study a particular instrument, then we offer a range of instruments and individual peripatetic lessons through the school. Information on how to sign up for these can be found within your induction pack.

What extra-curricular clubs are available?

We offer an impressive range of lunchtime clubs at Presdales. These ore open to different year groups on different days. At present due to COVID these are more limited, however we will be returning to the full timetable as soon as possible. Some examples for Year 7 include Trampolining, Netball, Choir, Drama club, Art club, Jewellery club, Dance club and Colouring club. In addition to these are the numerous Orchestra and Band rehearsals (these are on hold at present).

What if my daughter is the only one from her Primary school to attend Presdales?

Each year we have roughly 20 students who are the only student from their Primary school to attend Presdales, so they are not alone. In normal times we would arrange a visit to meet them within their Primary setting. We then offer an additional “event” within school which will allow your daughter time to learn their way around site and meet staff but most importantly make a friend. At this event they will meet other students within the same form as them who they can arrange to meet on the first day and who are also the only students from their Primary school.

There is a key focus on meeting new people with bonding games and mixing activities which form a large part of their first few days in school. The form tutors work hard to create seating plans which ensure that all students will be spending time with new people and making new friends. We also have our 6th form “big sisters” who work within the forms to support with socialising and creating new solid friendships.
