PressTales 20th December 2019

Dear Parents/Carers,

We are delighted to announce that we have successfully met the criteria for the Intermediate level of the British Council International School Award. We now look forward to working towards the full award over this coming year. I would like to thank all the staff involved who supported Mrs Yates with the successful application.

Thank you to parents and carers who were able to attend our Christmas Fayre at the end of November. Yet again, the event was well-attended and excellently organised by our parents and students. The winning forms were:

7EF - Christmas tombola £134.25
8KM - Throw a wet sponge at teacher £122.95
8AL - Christmas tree hoopla £117.00
7RM - Candy floss and marshmallow £112.20
7AS - Christmas biscuits and cakes £111.90

Just under £4000 was raised on the evening. A huge thank you to our parent supporters for all of their hard work in organising such a great event.

This year, instead of sending Christmas cards, a number of staff brought items of food in for local food banks. Yesterday, we were able to send many items to more than one food bank to support those in need at this time of year. I am very grateful to those staff who were able to donate.

There have been so many events over the past few days. On Monday we had our annual speech day and it was a pleasure to see so many ex-students return to receive their certificates. We had inspirational speeches from our guest speaker, Rebecca Hunstman, ex-Head girl from 1991, and from our last years Head and Deputy Head girls. On Wednesday we served hundreds of Christmas lunches to students. There was a slight drama in the morning when Head Chef Chris had to go to hospital after slicing through his finger! The catering team were amazing in carrying on as normal and my thanks go to them for their hard work.

Thank you to those parents who were able to attend our carol service on Wednesday evening. I was very impressed with the quality of performances from the students, and in particular the clarity of those students who spoke. The annual Sixth form review on Thursday was outstanding. My thanks go to those students and staff who spent many hours organising, videoing, editing and rehearsing so many items. We held our annual Christmas lower and upper school assemblies this morning. Over the past few years, Christian Cole, the Youth Pastor at Christ Church, Ware, has been a frequent visitor to Presdales, delivering numerous outstanding assemblies to the students. We wish Christian well as he moves on to pastures new.

Students in Years 7-9 should not be receiving homework over the Christmas break, students in Year 10-13 may have been given minimal revision or preparation work for upcoming coursework. We would like the students to take some time away from school work over the holidays.

Finally, I would like to say well done to all of our students for their hard work this term and my thanks go to our amazing staff for all that they do.

I wish you a restful and enjoyable break.

Kind regards,

Matt Warren
