PressTales 13th December 2019

Dear Parents/Carers,

As we woke up today to the results of the general election, we also started the day at Presdales with the results of our own election, which we also held yesterday. Over the past few weeks posters for each party have been displayed around the school and students have been canvassing in all year group assemblies. The results were as follows:

Labour Party 203
Liberal Democrats 140
Conservative Party 107
Green Party 77

It was pleasing to see so many students take part this year, with turnout being higher than in any of the previous mock elections we have run. In particular, Year 9 should be congratulated on having the highest turnout in Years 7-11, and close on 100 of the 135 in Year 12 cast a vote.

Earlier this week I had a meeting with the local Duke of Edinburgh Award representative and our lead staff member in school, Ms Haywood. It was a pleasure to be reminded that we now have over 200 students participating in the Bronze or Gold Award this year. The award is so important as it develops the ‘soft skills’ that can be acquired through extra-curricular activities, such as communication, commitment, leadership and teamwork. I would like to thank Ms Haywood, and those staff who help her, for the fantastic work they are doing with the D of E Award.

Well done to all of the Year 11 and 13 students who have now completed their mocks; they deserve a well-earned break over the Christmas period.

A reminder of the arrangements for the last week of term:

Monday 16th December: Speech Day. School ends at 12.30 pm for all those students not involved in Speech Day in the afternoon. Year 12 students who were not at Presdales for their Year 11 are not required to be in school on this day.
Wednesday 18th December: Christmas lunch will be served. The students are permitted to wear their Christmas jumpers throughout the day, with normal school uniform. This is optional.
Thursday 19th December: Christmas Non-uniform Day. The Charity Committee would like everyone to take part and to make a £2.00 donation. The funds raised will be split equally between our supported charity, World Vision, and the student led school council.
Friday 20th December: Last day of term. Students are dismissed at 12.45pm.

Regards,

Matt Warren
