Admissions arrangements consultation for September 2019 Entry: Addition of cross-sibling rule with Richard Hale School
Friday, 02 February 2018
Presdales School received 26 responses to the consultation. Fifteen responses were in favour, 8 against and 3 did not state their preference either way.
Hertfordshire County Council also provided feedback on our proposal and indicated that they would refer us to the Office of the Schools Adjudicator, as in their view our proposed change to the admissions arrangements could contravene the School Admission Code.
Following further research, including scrutinising previous adjudication judgements of schools with the same cross-sibling rule, the Governing body does not agree that the proposed change contravenes the School Admission Code. However, it is clear that our proposed change would be strengthened with adjustments to our admissions arrangements that would put us in line with those other schools who have successfully implemented the cross-sibling rule. These could include a closer working relationship between Presdales and Richard Hale, a rule that supports the admissions of those who live closest to the school, and matching priority areas. The Governors for both schools will investigate and discuss the implications of these changes and decide whether they are appropriate for our schools.
Any proposed changes will go through the consultation process next year.
Therefore, the proposed cross-sibling rule with Richard Hale will be removed from our admissions arrangements for September 2019.
