Year 7 Mathematics trip to the Isle of Wight

Friday, 03 March 2017

From 1st to 3rd March, Year 7 students took part in the PGL Mathematics and adventure activities trip to Little Canada on the Isle of Wight. Set in 48 acres of woodland on the banks of Wootton Creek, locations don’t come much better than this and the log cabin accommodation, which sleeps 4–8 girls with their own bathrooms, was lovely.

Although we were only there for 3 days, each one was filled with many fun activities.

‘My favourite activity was Giant Swing and I actually found the Maths evening fun!’ – Mia

We had an early start on the first day but this meant that we could start on our first activity straight after lunch.

‘The first day was my favourite as I did Climbing and Giant Swing and the weather was kind to us’ – Lotty

The dining room had a range of different and nutritious hot food to suit all appetites and there was unlimited access to the salad bar, bread basket and fruit. The buffet style restaurant meant the girls could ‘mix and match’ the items they liked the most.

‘The food was very nice; there were always three main options and a salad bar. There were chilled drinks and an assortment of hot beverages’ – Gemma

The PGL activities challenged the girls and, hopefully, left them feeling more confident. The Mathematics was completed successfully by the girls and, with luck, they learnt a few new skills along the way.

‘The trip was really fun, there was some maths involved but it was still fun. All the teachers and instructors were very encouraging which made it ten times better. Overall, everybody enjoyed themselves!’
– Emma

‘The trip was great and good for teamwork. I made new friends from different forms and teaching groups, and I learnt to face my fear of heights, even when I didn’t want to’ – Elena

This was a really successful trip and hopefully the girls will have many happy memories.

‘Overall the trip was great and we all had fun. I’d like to say a big
thankyou to all the PGL staff and Presdales
Teachers’ – Mia
