The Physical Education Department - 2017-2018

Welcome to Presdales PE Department. We pride ourselves in offering an all- round sporting experience for all pupils. We have varying expertise within the department which enables us to continue to offer a wide range of sporting activities. Over the years we have forged very strong links within the local community and have regular contact with external agencies and sporting clubs, such as Hertford Rugby club, Hertford Hornets Netball Club, Herts Phoenix Athletics Club, Saracens, Broxbourne Hockey Club.

The sporting experience for our pupils has been further enhanced with the addition of our purpose built Sports Hall which opened in 2010. This facility has transformed the provision of PE both in lessons and for extra- curricular clubs.

Aims

The PE Department philosophy reflects the aims of the School:-

In general we strive to

• Educate, encourage and provide opportunities for each pupil to reach their full potential.

• Promote participation in the full life of the School including attendance at extra-curricular clubs.

• Create an environment where care and concern for others can be encouraged.

• Encourage the development of self- esteem, self -discipline and self –motivation as a preparation for life after education.

PE helps pupils to develop personally and socially, they work as individuals, in groups and in teams, developing concepts of fairness and of personal and social responsibility. All pupils take on different roles and responsibilities within lessons, including leadership, coaching and officiating.

Gifted and Talented

The gifted and talented PE students are very well catered for. They attend early morning training sessions on a weekly basis, covering a mixture of speed, agility, power and endurance training. The sessions are open to pupils in Year 7 right through to Year 13 and the mix of age ranges works really well by giving the younger pupils someone to aspire to be like.

Extra-curricular Clubs

Clubs are offered in the following sports for all years.

Netball, Hockey, Football, Rugby, Gymnastics, Dance, Cross-Country, Trampolining, Volleyball, Basketball, Sportshall Athletics, Badminton, Tennis, Athletics, Rounders And Swimming.
