Presdales is an Academy with a considerable amount of expertise in the teaching of Modern Foreign Languages.
We are very proud to currently offer French, German, Italian, Japanese , Russian and Spanish up to A-level.
All girls joining us in Year 7 study 5 periods of French only. Girls who did not attend our feeder primary schools and who had no French in KS2 take part in an accelerated “ fast track” course for the first half- term after school to enable them to follow the scheme of work.
Each MfL department runs lunch-time clubs and activities for Year 7 so that the girls can familiarise themselves with the other languages we teach as part of our curriculum. Towards the end of Year 7 the girls will also take part in taster lessons.
In Year 8 all girls take up a second foreign language which can either be German, Italian, Russian or Spanish. They continue with 3 periods of French and 4 periods of the second language throughout Years 8 and 9.
In Year 10 all girls pursue at least one modern language at GCSE. This can either be French or the second language they have been studying in Year 8 and 9. They can do two if they wish. There is the option to study GCSE Japanese.
Languages continue to be a popular A-level option at Presdales as they are considered to be facilitating subjects and as such are looked upon favourably by the leading universities.
